The next generation of Google Analytics is upon us. You may have heard rumblings of GA4 over the past few years and, like many, thought “I have time – I’ll learn it when I have to.” Well, that time is now and we’re here to help you navigate the waters.
The latest version of Google’s web analytics service, known as GA4, was launched in October 2020 as the successor to Universal Analytics. Along with new features, comes a new user-interface, which looks significantly different than what advertisers are used to. All Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits on July 1, 2023 – that’s in just 30 days! Now this doesn’t mean your UA property immediately disappears into a black hole, but it is important to make sure you have gotten your GA4 property setup to begin collecting data as soon as possible so you’re not left to start from zero come July 1. Google hasn’t revealed an exact date on which we will no longer have access to Universal Analytics, but it is estimated to be about 6 months after initial sunset.
If you read nothing else, read this: the sooner you implement GA4, the less data you will lose.
